According to Wikipedia, Randy Travis released his version in 1989, then Billy Dean, co-writer of this song, covered the song in 1990.
Norman Cheung also had his version "我心深處" in his 1991 album "Passion".
Jeff Chang covered an English version in 1994 and included in his English album "Somewhere In My Broken Heart". Its guitar intro is different than original and other covers (which are nearly the same of the original), and with Jeff's vocal and the arrangement, I prefer Jeff's version more than the others.
I really thought this song was much older than 20 years old. I first heard of Somewhere In My Broken Heart was from some english compilation, in which contains mostly AOR ballad from the 70s. That's probably why I thought the song was much older.
Thanks ML for reminding us Norman Cheung's version. I have added his version here as well. In fact, listening to all the chinese covers tonight, I like his the most. I don't really care for the chinese instrument arrangement on Chris Wong's version. Wong Yik's cover was ok.
I first bought/heard Yong Yik's! Then Norman's & finally Christopher's!
I loved Yik's version so much that I HAD to find the original! Also maybe it was featured in 1992 TVB's drama《賭霸》as 插曲!
With Billy Dean as composer & Somewhere In My Broken Heart in the lyrics! It was easy!
Then I bought/heard Norman's! Wow, loved it! Actually I loved his whole album! His was less dramatic than Yik's! But I also liked it (pleasant to listen to)!
Although I was Chris' fan! I have to admit I hate his! After so long & so many Canto-covers the magic has worn off! He tried to make his different than the 2 previous covers with the Chinese ingredients! But it just don't work!

Randy Travis did record it first! But he didn't release it as a single! While Billy Dean did release it as his album's 2nd single on Capitol (EMI, Norman's label & inspiration)! And he had big success with it #3 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks charts plus #18 on the Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks charts! I first heard & also prefered Billy's over Randy's! I like Billy's voice!
In my opinion Jeff Chang's 1994 & Samuel Tai's 1995 remakes have nothing to with this post! Both 4:15 while original(s) were 3:15/3:20! I agreed Jeff's version is good on its own.
