I have Sandy's album! And loved this track a lot! Never heard of the original before. Thank you for this post! Hmm, I prefer all Cantonese covers of today's posts! Perhaps Dick Lee's creations were so much Chinese influented! So singing in Chinese (Mandarin/ Cantonese) would enhance the whole thing!
Among the three songs today, this one is the closest in arrangement between the original and the cover versions. I do agree though, Sandy's version sounds better.
Although it may seem that Dick Lee's own versions were not as strong as the covers, especially when putting them together and can be compared. But the flip side of that, these songs were well-written and selected particularly for these artists to cover (Dick Lee involved in all 3 cover versions' production).
When you listen to Dick Lee's album on its own, you might appreciate his version more. I have really started to listen to his own stuffs last year. And I have been collecting his CD, already got 7 of them.
There is one more Dick Lee's song that is being covered but we will unlikely to be able to listen to, unfortunately... that is 憶蓮 - 沒結果的原版. It was covered from Dick Lee's I Need You Back (1984!). I know it was only on vinyl, and was never re-released. It would be marvelous if we can listen to that original. To me anyway.
