First time to hear the original VS million times of Chris' version: prefer Chris' version more! It's also because of the arrangements sound fresher (original album version is so plain)! Perhaps Chris' version has elements stolen from the original's 7:12 Full Length Mix (no preview to support my theory)!

Andrew Gold/Graham Gouldman were from 10cc ("I'm not in love")! I love Wax' hit from 1987 "Bridge to Your Heart":

This is one of those rare finds, it's not a single track, they were not particularly popular. Honestly, I didn't even know the group Wax until I started to hunt down this original. I like Chris's version, but actually also like the original, it has a very 80s sound to me, reminds me of Howard Jones.

BTW, the Full Length Mix is the B-side of the single American English, which was released in Oct 1987. Although Chris's album Moody was also released in 1987, it seems unlikely that the song was produced that last minute. Just my guess.
